The Bruins played their first game at home with the expansion North Kawartha Knights on a snowy Halloween evening at the Bear Den! Uxbridge poured 52 shots on goal en route to a 5-1 win. But it took 18 minutes and 33 seconds before they would score as Jordan Nessbitt fed Alex Williamson and he found Daryl Thomson who finished of the play with a perfect wraparound for the first of two on the night. In the second period Marco Mastrangelo went end to end blowing by the defence and sliding the puck under the North Kawartha netminder. Jason Simmonds assisted on the goal. A wide open Thomson fired a bullet from Adam Bartholomew for a 3-0 lead but the Knights got one on their own to start the third, with the puck actually getting lodged in the net webbing by the hard slapshot. (Photo Courtesy of Mike Steptoe) Uxbridge fired 34 shots at the Little Britain Merchants goalie tonight but fell 5-2 as the Merchants returned 26 at the Uxbridge net. Korey Brand took a pass from Owen Scuralli (AP) and walked in front of the net for a 1-0 lead after the first. Alex Siblock also assisted on the play. Just 33 seconds into the second Korey Brand blocked a shot and made it 2-0 (SH) as the Bruins were in total control. Adam Bartholomew and Thomas Sheedy added helpers. But the Merchants fired 5 straight goals to take a commanding 5-2 lead into the second intermission and that stood up as the final. The Bruins next home game is Oct.31st vs the expansion North Kawartha Knights at 7:45pm
Jarett Smith got the Bruins on the board early in the first when he stole a puck off an Ice defender and fired a wicked wrist shot stick side on the Georgina Ice goalie. But the second belonged to the Ice who scored 2 goals in 24 seconds and headed into the second intermission with the lead. The coaching staff must have said all the right things during their time in the dressing room as they came out flying pumping 20 shots at the visiting goalie and scoring 4 goals for a 5-2 win. Alex Siblock from Aiden Reilly and Carter Vahey tied the game at 2 apiece, then it was Daryl Thomson firing five hole from Alex Williamson for the game winner. Jarett Smith added his second of the night when he came out of the corner and slapped a quick shot over the glove of the ice goalie. Korey Brand and Marco Mastrangelo assisted on the play. Thomson played give and go with Williamson for his 2nd of the night, firing a shot along the ice that found it’s way into the net. This was the Bruins 3rd win in a row as they sit in first place, two points up on Clarington and Lakefield, But Port Perry and Little britain are only 3 and 4 points respectfully behind them in a very tight Central division. Photo courtesy The Standard (Darryl Knight) If you were at the game in Port Perry this afternoon, you got your money’s worth as the Bruins and the Mojacks battled in a classic rivalry game that had to be settled in a shootout. Uxbridge’s Dylan Locke got the Bruins on the board first with a beauty on a wrap-around shot that was set in motion by Daryl Thomson. But the Mojacks would tie it up before the period was over on a power play and then take a 2-1 lead in the second. Conner Evans fed Korey Brand who was in mid flight and he made a perfect pass to Jarett Smith who deflected the shot pass the Port goalie for a 2-2 tie. The Mojacks regained the lead before Carter Vahey fired a wrister through a crowd from the point just seconds into a power play and we are tied at 3-3 going into the third. Smith and Marco Mastrangelo were the setup men right off the face-off. It was a scoreless third period as both goalies came up with big saves especially the Bruins Brandon Francey on a breakaway in the dying mins of the game. The Mojacks thought they had won it in OT but the officials gathered and ruled no goal as the player had knocked the puck into the net with a high stick.
In the shootout Dylan Locke scored on the first shot and Marco Mastrangelo on the Bruins third for a big 4-3 win in Mojack land. The Standings will have Uxbridge and (the winner of Lakefield at Clarington later today) tied for first with the losing team possibly tied with The Mojacks at one back. Little Britain will be 2 back in a very tight Central Division.

The Eagles (PP) cut the lead in half before the first was over. In the second Marco Mastrangelo took a pass from Conner Evans and his cross ice pass hit a Clarington player and went passed the Eagles tender who was moving across his net on the play. When an Eagles defender fell while playing the puck, opportunity knocks for Daryl Thomson who went around the net and fired a five hole shot for a 4-1 lead. Clarington added one in the third on the power play but an empty net short handed goal by Alex Williamson sealed the 5-2 victory. Brandon Francey stopped 34 of the 36 shots he faced picking up the win. Combined with Port Perry’s 3-1 loss to the improving Georgina Ice, the Bruins find themselves tied with the Mojacks and Eagles for 1st place in the Central.
